After having looked into UVa admission, I have seen that OOS admission to UVa is really competitive. I just wanted to know, that with these basic stats, if I would have a good shot:

ACT: 33 (35 E, 33 M, 34 R, 29 S), 11 W

UW GPA: 3.94
W GPA: 4.556

Class Rank: 5 of around 320.

11 AP courses (including senior year). Considered most rigorous course load at my school.

Recommendations should range from very good to great. Supplemental recs will be outstanding.

I only have two primary extracurriculars, but I'll have 6 years captainship between the two, and I'm super dedicated and award winning for both.

Major Awards:
AP Scholar
AP Scholar with Distinction
National Honor Society

I will be applying EA, and I'll be planning on majoring in political science. Also, I'm from Illinois, if that means anything.

First, the usual disclaimer: none of us can tell you anything definitively. With that said… I can’t speak to EA, but your stats are extremely similar to my S who applied RD, was accepted and is now part of the Class of 2017 as an OOS student. The only real difference is his ACT was a 34, but the subscores are very similar - your 11W is better. He only had 8 APs to your 11, but he did score 5’s on all of the AP tests and he had excellent SAT II scores. He was not a varsity athlete, and his leadership was longterm in 2 other areas, as is yours.

So, I’d say your stats thus far look solid for OOS. However do NOT underestimate the importance of your essays - both the common app and the UVa supplement. They are very important pieces of the puzzle as well.

I should mention that my two extracurriculars are academic teams, Debate and Scholastic Bowl, and not sports. I don’t think that changes anything, however. For whatever reason, I always assume that no one will assume sports.

But thanks for the quick reply! I’m looking at UVa’s essay prompts, and they look good.
