Can anyone give me an idea of how competitive Maryland is for out of state students...any SAT score range and gpa numbers would be greatly appreicated. Also, how close is the metro stop to the campus?

I have been wondering this too. Also, anyone know how they calculate grades?

i woudl assume although not set in stone than out of stater should shoot for sats 1250+ and an unweighted gpa of 3.4/3.5 to be competitive for admissions...umd has a hollistic approach to admissions tho meaning the essay/extra currics are an important factor as well also it depends on what your major is...direct admission to the business school is considerably more difficult than say the physics department agains these arent set in stone as one of my friends who is out of state was accepted and in college park scholars with a 3.8weighted 3.3 uw gpa and an 1140 SAT score

Alright, thanks a lot that was really helpful.

I went and visited Maryland (im from ny) and took the tour and was in the info session... they scared the crap out of me lol. 70% is in state and 30% is out of state and of that 30% you have a 48% chance lolol... they also said that each year more and more people are applying and its getting harder and harder.. makes you feel real great!

yeah tell me about it, I'm from NY also and I know a couple of kids apply from my school each year and many get rejected.

im from ny and im an incoming freshman. i went to a top notch public school and of asian decent.

my stats:
3.3gpa
1260 sats
acouple AP's

i know i barely got in but my stats kind of lie. i did bad in spanish and my gpa without spanish is like a 3.6. also i think my essasy helped alot. i was a very good writer in mys chool and i spent a lot of time on it. so i would suggest to take it serous. that essay can get u in if u are on the border line.
