Out of state applicant - How do I stand out?

I’m currently a junior from Michigan. I am very interest in UNC Chapel Hill. I have the usual credentials, 3.94 gpa, 32 on act, very challenging course load, etc. But I how can I show them that I’m extremely interested in this school through my application. I am visiting in the summer for a tour and admissions information center, anything else I can do?

You need to show who you are. Write about your volunteer work, show what you have done in the community, etc.

According to their common data set, UNC-CH does not consider demonstrated interest. They’re competitive enough for admissions - especially out-of-state - that they don’t need to. Most students applying are extremely interested. You need to show them what you bring to the school, not how much you want to go to the school.

Is your GPA unweighted? If it is weighted, it would be a little low for admitted students unless you have some sort of admissions “hook.” Also, I would try to get your ACT score up to 34+ if you can. And be sure that your essays are top notch.

As @InigoMontoya states, most OOS students who apply to UNC-CH are extremely interested in attending; that’s just a given.

By the way, when you posted on the “What Are My Chances” Forum yesterday evening, you mentioned that you had a 31 ACT and a 3.96UW GPA. Which are correct?
