Out of State Applicants

Does anyone have a feel for what W&M Admissions requires for out of state admission? My D stacks up well against the published admission stats, but those of course include in state applicants.

I have wondered this as well. After scouring this thread I found this from the W&M Admissions (College Rep)

“Our OOS middle 50% range is 31-32 so we would recommend that you try to that test again in September as we will take your best score.”

OOS for W&M is very difficult. Good Luck but don’t get hopes up.

Thanks NewEnglandMom. The tight range for OSS (31-32) shows that they have some pretty strict requirements with very few kids getting in who are below a 31. No doubt they can afford to be highly selective with OSS. I do appreciate W&M’s willingness to be trasparent about what they are looking for.

Keep in mind 31-32 represents our middle 50% range on the ACT for OOS students (so 25% of our OOS students score below 31 and 25% higher than 32). 31 is not a minimum requirement. The equivalent range on the SAT is 1380-1430 (Crtical Reading + Math). Generally we admit about 28% of the OOS students who apply (our overall admit rate is about 33%) so we are a bit more selective for OOS students than IS students (that’s in part because we actually have more OOS students in our pool than IS students so there are more OOS students competing for fewer spaces in our class.

That being said OOS students go through the same thorough holistic process that our IS students do.
