Out of State Bros

How does money look for us outta states? I live in NH, do I have ANY shot at scholarships or some financial aid? Or is it all for in-states?

for instate obviously, the college is runned on the money from michigan tax payers.

You can earn scholarships. There are a number of scholarships for OOS students.

Tons of people I know from OOS have scholarships. I'm not sure I know anyone in-state or out-of-state with substantial financial aid, though.

How do I go about qualifying for a scholarship here?

well yeah you can always qualify for merit scholarship, but you probaly wont get aids and grants from michigan.

For a merit scholarship, I would recommend a 3.8-4.0 unweighed GPA with a top 5% class rank and ACT/SAT scores of at least 34/2250. Applying beofre November 1 also helps. Even then, there are no guarantees, but a student November with those credentials often gets some sort of scholarship. OOS students get as much, if not more merit based aid than in-state students.

For need-based FA, in the case of OOS students, Michigan meets anywhere from 70% to 100% of a students demonstrated need, depending on the case. On average, Michigan meets over 80% of OOSers demonstrated need.

I know when I was applying(oos), I got more financial aid from Michigan than schools like Carnegie Mellon, Rochester, RPI, and about the same as Cornell. Only Vanderbilt gave me more aid.

It's not as generous HYP obviously, but it met about 70% of my need with grants, and 20% more with loans.

argh.

GPA is 3.9 UW

2 in class of 285

but my SAT is 2240.

Your GPA and class rank (Salutorian no less) are definitely where they should be. Your SAT is also solid. You are definitely getting admitted and you have an excellent shot at getting into the honors program. A merit scholarship could also be in the works, but a slightly higher SAT score could help. Why not sit for the November SAT?

SAT IIs, then.

You are taking your SAT IIs in November? If it isn't too late, perhaps you can walk in for the SAT I on October 4. That's assuming you are mentally prepared. Keep in mind Michigan does not really consider the SAT II.
