Out of state: CC or 4-year?

In one of my other posts, a user explained that if I am going to pay out of state for a community college, I might as well go to a 4 year university and pay out of state there instead. I don't completely agree though.

Any opinions?

Well, I think the user’s point was. A community college in State A is just like a community college in State B. You live in State A, so your cost of attendance will be much less for the CC in State A than the CC in State B. So why go out-of-state at all?

You live in New Jersey as well?

So, the two biggest reasons why I am looking at going out of state:

 1. My boyfriend and I want to split rent and live on our own, but stay in his home state of Washington.
 2. I don’t have my permit or my license, although I have passed my written test, I would much rather live in an area where I can safely ride my bike a couple blocks down the road to my school.

I haven’t really seen many places in New Jersey like that, except by the beach maybe, and I’m sure it’s extremely expensive. My parents have repeatedly asked me to live with them, but I have told them that even with Raritan Valley CC, which is closest to me, I would have to drive.

My boyfriend is 4 years older than me, so he will be out of college with a full time job by the time I leave to live with him. So he may even be able to pay the full rent by himself, and then I would gladly pay for the groceries, the internet bill and what not.

Basically, I won’t be completely out on my own, but I am dead set on going out of state. I just don’t know if I should still save by going to CC or go to a 4 year.

I am also leaving new jersey. Im,going to a cc because it is cheaper. By the time i transfer i will be a resident and be able to afford a four year university

Well, I’m moving into Brooklyn (permanently, I hope) this summer. I can sympathize. NJ is difficult. I’ve commuted to Brooklyn every day for two years :frowning: there’s nothing here, you have to drive everywhere, I don’t have a car, and I don’t want one because it’s dangerous and bad for the environment etc etc.

Is your boyfriend going to college? If he isn’t, he should really stay in NJ. At least until you finish. Some places in Jersey come dirt cheap :)
