I want to major in Biology.

Is my URM status (hispanic) very beneficial?

Thank you!

I wouldn’t hold your breath. Even for an in-state applicant, your GPA and test scores would make it very iffy. Hate to be harsh, but as an OOS applicant you don’t really have a realistic chance.

And your ethnicity can’t help; UCs are barred by law from considering it in admissions.

Only thing that may help you is that you are Mexican… but no one knows for sure if you are getting in or not.

“but as an OOS applicant you don’t really have a realistic chance.”

not as true for this particular year.

read the articles i posted in the other thread asking about OOS chances.

They’re accepting more OOS applicants this year, yes. But a 3.4/3.8 isn’t really competitive, even for in-state…

Berkeley (or any UC) does not consider ethnicity for admission (CA Prop 209). Berkeley is expecting to increase the number of OOS students, but there is conflicting information about how many more. The approximate admit numbers should come out by summer; but the situation may change if the economy gets better.
