other: interested in biological research and am very commited/motivated
will be retaking sat/ taking act and other sat2's
essays should be above average, same with recs

Berkeley: reach

A ~3.5 UW GPA would be a reach even for in-staters. Average SAT, somewhat weak ECs, rank a little weak (not ELC), no strong honors/awards. Have you actually done biological research? That might help. All this + OOS status, but URM would make Berkeley a reach.

I think your SAT is pretty decent, GPA weighted is nice... good athletics too. Hmm.. try padding in that gpa by getting good grades next year.

major reach. I agree with the two previous responses in that the SAT is average, but it is avg. for IN STATE students (which they only accepted 23% of last year). Same with GPA, maybe even a little below avg. Not to discourage you, but only 7% of their frosh class this year was OOS, and they accepted only around 15% of OOS students. Which means you really have to be in the top 15% of the entire applicant pool to have a decent shot. So you need to have around a 3.9-4.0 uw GPA, and AT LEAST a 2200 SAT. Of course, people have gotten in with lower scores, but normally they are minorities or people with special family situations. Go ahead and apply, who knows what will happen, but to have a decent shot you really need the scores I listed above. Basically it is like trying to get into a mid-top Ivy League school. Good luck though, anything can happen!...oh yeah, you need 2 SAT IIs.

thx for the input. i want aware that it was harder to get oos, just figured it was due to less applications. i guess it will have to be that way, i am retaking the sat but not expecting much higher. oh well. ill try anyway.

Yeah, definitely give it a shot. Essays can make a difference, especially OOS. Make it original, and that will say a lot about you. Best of luck!
