Out of State Chances

I recently discovered Binghamton and am seriously considering applying there. Here are my stats:

Top 25% of class (I go to a very competitive public high school)
3.6 GPA (weighted)
By the time I graduate, I will have taken 5 APs and 6 honors classes.
AP Lang and Comp: 5
AP US History: 5
AP Psychology: 4
Senior year I'm taking AP Lit and Comp and AP Gov and Politics.

1270/1930 SAT - (650 CR/620 M/660 W)

EC's:
- Copy editor of my school newspaper
- Secretary of Future Educators of America
- I volunteer as an alter server at my church
- Honors Choir for two years
- Regions Choir for two years
- NJ All States Choir senior year
- Member of three choirs in my local conservatory, two are auditioned
- I also study piano and voice privately
- For the past three years, was an CIT at my sleepaway camp
- I volunteered in Mississippi with my church for two summers to help many people recover from Hurricane Katrina

Good essay(s) and recommendation letters

I'm also from out of state (NJ), so would that increase my chances of getting in? I'm probably going to double major in music and English, if that helps.

I hate out-of-staters taking advantage of Bing’s low out-of-state tuition. Don’t apply.

OP: I’d be shocked if you didn’t get in…

sorry dude…but he/she not applying does not make it easier/harder for in-staters to be accepted…

I also think you have a good chance. And I agree wholeheartedly with rodney. NYers who are not admitted to Binghamton or Stony Brook or wherever are better advised to look at your in-state competition as a reason for the denial rather than the relative handful of OOS applicants. Just be glad Binghamton doesn’t follow the admissions practices of W&M or UVA.

“just be glad that binghamton doesnt follow the admissions practices of W&M or UVA”…yet…

Based on your stats, you have a very good chance of getting into Binghamton. It is an excellent school. You do not take away from any New Yorkers’ chances because the school must have a certain percentage of out of state acceptances! Unfortunately, the competition for in-state acceptance is harder because it is one of New York’s top state institutions. The same thing applies to any state for in-state acceptances! My son is currently attending Bing and LOVES it! We are from out of state and your stats match his! Best of luck with your search!
