Out-of-State Education

Maybe this has been covered before, but I am a junior in HS anticipating college in 2007. I live in Texas but I really want to go to school in Colorado, but with out-of-state expenses, what are my chances of getting scholarships from the school and other outside aid? I've read about financial aid, but it seems very difficult to pay back. Should I just back out and go to a school in Texas or is there an easier way out?

None of the Colorado state schools are rolling in $$$$. They count on OOS tuition to make the budget work.

If you have good academics, you should be able to get merit scholarships fairly easily.

Merit money for OOS students is very limited at most state schools.

Does the same apply to a private school (University of Denver, perhaps)?

No, not at all.

With that being said, am I more likely to get money from a private college than a public one? Sorry if it's an obvious question, but I've read that private colleges are somewhat generous in pay.

If you want to go to school out of state, and they dont offer you enough money, but you still want to go, you find a way to make it work. It's simple as that.

Private, but their tuition is also more. Depends on your need.

University of Denver gives tons of money and several full scholarships? If you are minority and have a 1300 SAT you have a very good chance at getting a full ride (i know several people who got full rides) If you aren't minority you'll need a 1400 SAT for a fullride. If your stats arent quite that high they still give big scholarships. I got one for 10,000 a year. University Colorado Boulder has also started a new scholarship for Out of State students (just started it this year). They are offering me 15,000 a year for the first 2 years and 12,500 a year for the last two years (because I'll be elligable for other upperclassman scholarships then if I get a good college GPA). Colorado College gives a lot of finaid money and they give several scholarshiops as well although not as much as the other schools.

Schools we've investigated that have decent merit for OOS:

U of Arizona

U of Iowa

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of UC-Boulder, but all of this information is helpful, thanks!
