Out of state effect?

i saw on collegeboard that around 90% of the students at cal poly are in-state.
is it considerably harder to get in as an out of state student?

Yes it is.

Well in the past years it was harder but looking at the budget crisis , I think SLO is going to increase the acceptance rate for OOS students.

I think davidbruman is correct. We’re in a western state (not California :)) I helped out at our local college fair last month. A Cal Poly admissions officer had a table there, and we got to talking. He and his office are actively recruiting out-of-state applicants this year. It’s all about the California budget shortfall. One of Cali’s biggest assets is her universities. Times are tight. Why not put a price tag on that education, and tap one of the biggest graduating classes of all time to make ends meet? California residents who have been paying taxes and now may find their child without a spot in these colleges should be screaming “Foul!” but the rest of the state’s population may be happy to see some $ coming their way.

While that may be, there are still more spots for in-state students even though there may be an increase in out of staters this year. Which means that it will still be easier to get in as an in-state student than it will be as an out of state student. Its all about the applicant pool size and competition.
