Out of state extreme circumstances. chances?

Looking for my chances on UCLA, Berekley, San Diego, and USC.

I don't have a "GPA" as I fell extremely ill around freshmen year, and spend 3 years on and off with frequent month long hospital visits. Some courses I was able to take, and some were completed by Credit by Examination. All medical issues are thoroughly documented and can be provided to schools.

Keep in mind I've basically taught myself everything that I've learned in my high school years. No consistent classroom instruction. I studied, and gained everything from textbook, and other resources. Took the hardest course load offered in my School/District, and have extreme Medical and Academic references even though I know they aren't required or requested.

Do I have any chance?

UC’s don’t accept letters of recommendation. Are you going to graduate from high school?

Yes, class of 2014.

I think you have a very unique story to talk about in your essays. I noticed a strong interest in medicine from briefly scanning your ECs. I personally think that if you talk about how your illness positively - and even negatively! - affected you in your essay, and how it fostered your interest in health-related activities, you may create a very appealing application.

Your GPA/SAT may be on the low side, but I’ve seen several students with similar stats get in because of fantastic ECs/essays. Don’t lose hope!

If you were a national merit finalist, you should have no problem getting that 1970 up. Other than that, just explain your situation and you’ll be fine.

The question first on your mind shouldn’t be “do I have a chance”, it should be “Can I pay for this?”. You live in a state with a top-notch public university, easily on par with the UC system. The best choice would be to go there. Keep in mind there is no financial aid available for the OOS tuition at UCs.

So if your family is willing to pay up then I thank them in advance for their gift to the UC system. Otherwise it is an impractical wish.

^agreed. UT Austin is great, but I won’t stand in the way of you giving money to the UC’s.
