Out of state fees?

Then you really need to prepare the sat and act like your future depends on these scores, because otherwise you’re stuck… The parents are supposed to be responsible for their kids’ college costs. There’s no system that allows the kid to have fewer costs (or where the college picks up the tab) if the parents won’t pay. The only way for you to go to college is for you to live in the same state they do and work full time till they’ve been in that state for enough months that it’ll be 12 months in August when you start college, hoping your test scores qualify you for a full tuition scholarship. OR wait till you’re 24 or are married.

Do you think OP could try Berea?

They’ll fill out any aid as long as they are not responsible for payment.

Ok, that’s something at least.
Yes, Berea might be possible - it’s means tested so he’d have to read up on it to see if she/he is financially eligible.

That seems insanely unfair. It’s not my fault my parents didn’t finance my education. I guess I’ll have to make a big choice. :frowning:

Where can I find more info about Berea? What is it?

You have to practice for the sat and act every day (use Khan academy, borrow merlzer books on English and reading as well as pwn the sat math), and register today for both. If you take them now they’ll ‘count’.
I agree it’s not your fault but if all parents had to do for their kids together a full tuition scholarship is for them to say ‘i won’t pay’, almost no parent would pay… :frowning:
You can borrow exactly 5.5k freshman year. If you don’t use these loans, ‘banking’ them means saving most of the money by placing it in the bank.

@photoforreal https://www.berea.edu/ Final deadline in 17 days https://www.berea.edu/admissions/

Are you planning to enroll in college fall 2018? Will your HS diploma work be completed?

Yes.

I love Khan it helped my scrore last time. Thank you for help.

Thank you. They don’t have what I wanted to major in but I’d major in anything for free tuition. Thank you!

@photoforreal Be aggressive and call them if you have any questions. Good luck!

@photoforreal Your 1280 SAT translates to a 27 ACT. You are above their median range. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berea_College

Their mission is Appalachia, though. I think it’s a great idea, but not a sure thing.

25% are not Appalachia. No guts, no glory. Not sure if OP has a homestate really.

A 1280 and 3.6 GPA would give you full tuition at Southeast Missouri State.

Room & board would still be around $9000, so after $5500 loan there would still be $3500 plus travel expense, books, etc.

Berea targets needy students. If the OP’s parents make good money Berea won’t work. It’s worth checking.

Look into Berea and see if you meet their financial eligibility. In your application (if eligible), emphasize that your parents are nomadic* and thus that you don’t have any state that you’re a resident of.

(* ie., they move frequently - three moves in a year for instance.)
