I have not received any kind of invitation or email informing me about a scholarship application whatsoever. Do you need the FAFSA for that even if it's merit? Also what opportunities financially are open to out-of-state at Berkeley? Do they still offer small amounts of gift aid?

i think for out-of-state students, the policy was that they do not get to apply for any scholarhips until they have taken 2full, consecutive semesters at berkeley. So basically, you can start applying for financial aid at the beginning of your second year.

No, Berkeley gives financial aid to incoming freshman and transfers. I am an OOS applicant, and I was invited to compete for the Leadership Scholarship. They even give OOS students a little more money for that scholarship. You don’t need to have your updated FAFSA to be considered for merit based, but you do for need based. You do need to submit a FAFSA before financial aid can give you a quote on loans though.

The only real merit offered by UC’s is Regent’s and Chancellors’ scholarships and you would have been notified a long time ago about those (if you were in the running). (sorry, but Blue State politicians don’t believe in merit.) Each campus has an alumni association which also offers scholarships, including the aforementioned Leadership Scholarship. But it is not thru UC, but a private foundation (alumni $).

And to the scholarships you guys just mentioned, I need to be invited? Am I told through MyBerkeley App, what section of it?

the leadership scholarship by the cal alumni was sent in February. . .before acceptances were mailed out. But they already picked their semi-finalists sorry.

At this point, you need to focus your efforts on outside/private scholarships. Most scholarship deadlines have passed, but you should sign up with scholarship search sites to see if there are still scholarships available that you may qualify.
