Out of state financial aid?

Out of state students: can you share your exeriences with the financial aid office and your financial aid package? THANKS

We did not receive any. We didn't think we would but we might have received some merit aid elsewhere.

same here... I wasn't expecting any. and WM is not one to give out sums of money for merit I don't think... many of my friends received a few thousand here and there from different schools, but I don't really know of anything like that from WM except the college scholars scholarship...

Thanks. I was pretty clear about the lack of merit aid but was wondering how generous they were about meeting need. Are they known to gap?
It would seem to be not much of an issue for instate people. I, for one, would be glad to pony up the instate costs.

I am an instate independent student and my husband makes almost all the money. On the fafsa website, my EFC is around 8000, but WM gave me $1300 of grant and $13500 of loans, because WM estimated my need solely upon my income?

After going to a CC for two year, I dont mind that much taking a lot of loans, after all, WM is a public school.

Wiliam and Mary was GREAT with their financial aid with me! I didn't expect to get much money, or, at least compared to some other private schools (such as Notre Dame, which I figured their large endowment would take care of me) since I was an out-of-state applicant. Of the eight college I was accepted to, they gave me the best financial aid. None of it was merit-based, by the way. Hope this helped. Best of luck,

Can you describe, GREAT? Did they meet 100% of your need?

I know there are many schools offering great aid packages and merit-based scholarships but WM is known as a poorly funded school. They did meet all my need which is 13000 dollars but mostly loan.

Bluejay,

If i remember correctly, they gave me $29000 out of the $31000 for out-of-state. My family's EFC is $0, but the package itself was awesome- only $1300 in work-study (as compared to $4000 and $3500 NYU and Berkeley, respectively, wanted from me) and maybe $2000 in good loans. The rest of the money is basically personal expenses and stuff, so that wouldn't be covered by the FinAid Office. Hope that helped, sorry I don't have exact numbers, but I'd be reluctant to share exact figures, anyhow. shrug =)
