Out of State for Berkley

I want to go to Berkley and major in Computer Science. I heard the chances for going to Berkley are really low, and I also will probably need a full-ride scholarship. Cornell is my second option, and because they are a private school, I would probably have a better chance of getting in, and would most likely meet my need. I really want to go to Berkley though. Is there a chance for me? I have a 4.0 GPA so far, as I am taking Algebra I in 8th grade, and plan to have Straight As for high school, if I buckle down and do the work. I am an exceptional student who has skipped a grade and is in the Gifted Program and will take all advanced classes. Again, do I have a chance?

UCB does not give full ride scholarships. They offer Regent scholarships and some other academic scholarships, but figure your costs to attend will be close to $55K/year since as an out of side applicant, you will get little to no financial aid. You haven’t even started HS, so I wouldn’t even worry about colleges at this point. Just keep up your grades, find some EC’s of interest in HS and keep working hard. Come back at the end of your Junior year with your UC GPA, Test scores and EC’s and then ask for your chances.

Your chances of getting a fullride FA to Berkeley are ZERO, because 1) you are OOS, and 2) you keep misspelling the school’s name
