Does that two honors course guideline apply to all three cal poly schools?
The one semester honors may be correct for UC GPA calculations, but it seems like the semester of a college course does count as a full year for meeting subject requirements. S21 took two semesters of ASL and no other foreign language and did get admissions and waitlists to UCs.
All Cal states consider 1 semester College class = 2 grades = 2 honors points if taken the summer after 9th grade through the summer prior to 12th grade.
Cal Poly SLO is the only outlier in how they calculate their GPA which uses 9-11th a-g course grades but they still cap the honors points (8 semesters) for eligible courses taken 10-11th grades.
The Cal Polys are CSUs. Pomona and Humboldt use typical CSU HS GPA recalculation, but San Luis Obispo recalculates with 9th grade included as well.
Yes, for subject requirements, it often takes fewer college courses than high school courses to meet them. In language other than English, UCs and CSUs use the highest level completed or equivalent.
DS goes to a very competitive private school in-state.
And we were told by the school counselor that UCs look at the school Honors courses’ rigor and would be given credit as HL when UCs review it.
So, I do not know what to believe. But it does not sound right if they would n’t acknowledge it given the curriculum and rigor of those school Honors courses.
In-state CA HS students can look up which HS courses are UC approved for the extra Honors points in the GPA calculation on this link but HS designated Honors courses not UC approved can still be considered for rigor in-state and OOS.
