I currently live in Memphis Tn and am attending the University of Memphis via their online program. If I choose to move to Louisiana will my residency status change right away?

You need to check the policies of University of Memphis. They will tell you their policy fe: instate residency and what happens if your family moves.

Are you an independent student? If so, the state of residence of your PARENTS determines your state of residency.

^^I think thumper meant your dependency status depends on your parents if you are a dependent student.

Yes…what I meant was that if you are an undergrad student under the age of 24, usually the state in which your PARENTS reside is the state in which the student is considered an instate resident.

OOPs…meant to write dependent…not independent…

And to the OP…this does not mean that you just have an apartment or whatever and file your own taxes…that will not make you independent from your parents for residency purposes in most places. In the vast majority of cases, for undergrad students UNDER the age of 24…place of residency for tuition purposes is where the PARENTS reside.
