Out of State Journalism Major

I am an OOS student (NJ) who was accepted to the College Park Scholars program and the Phillip Merrill College of Journalism. I have not received any merit scholarships (I don’t know if they have all been sent out yet or not) but I’m not expecting much regardless. Is Maryland worth the pricey tuition and fees for an out of state student, especially for a journalism major? I was accepted to Rutgers, American, Ohio, Rowan, and some other schools.

Congratulations on all your acceptances…you have some great options! Did you receive any merit awards from your other choices…especially the in-state schools? If so, Rowan or Rutgers are terrific options. I’ve also heard that American offers generous merit…although that was some years back.

I did not receive anything from Rutgers, they are usually pretty strict with merit awards for in-state students. I got $12,000 per year from Rowan, and it is only abut $26,000 per year for tuition, room and board, and other fees. I think Rowan is my best financial option, but I am really in love with UMD.
