Out Of State Questions

What are the odds of an out of state student receiving any kind of money, whether that be a scholarship, grant, etc?

There are a few threads floating around on basically the same subject. Take a peek around and you’ll see em.

Generally speaking though, if your family doesn’t have the means to pay for the steep OOS tuition, the situation isn’t particularly favorable in terms of financial aid, and obviously $50,000+ a year for 4 years isn’t the best to take on as debt.

very slim.

If you are a top student applicant, the UC’s offer Regents scholarships that can vary from $2000 to $10,000/year. UCD also offer the Provost scholarship for top OOS students at $13,250 a year. UCLA has the Alumni Scholarship, UCB has the Chancellor scholarships, so there are some scholarships that are available. I suggest you check each UC’s website to see what they have to offer. Most are highly competitive and only make a small dent in the $55K+/year tuition/fees/room/board required to attend a UC. In other words, do not count on much money from the UC’s.

The UCs are public universities, funded in part by the State of California’s taxpayers. They are not going to fund an OOS student. Funding is extremely limited or non existent.
