Can you still get the University Achievement Scholarship in march after getting in priority in December? I know some people got theirs back in December but do they wait to hand it out to others?

i don’t think so.

uiuc is broke and the state still owes money. out of state scholarships are very rare.

signed,

oos student paying 40k a year

chemesrule - do you feel its worth the price? I would be paying 48k a year to study at a top 5 computer science program. Also have you gotten any internships that allow you to defray some of the cost of attending? UIUC is perfect in every aspect for me and I really want to attend! But i need more people’s opinions!

i would like to know this too!

its a sticky situation. did you get into any other schools? how well off is your family? usually the best route is the one where you end up with the least amount of debt; but since u of i has such high rankings, that may sway your decision. your best bet is to weigh the pros and cons with your family and see. while i enjoy my time here in illinois, i feel that it would be smarter to go to my home state’s school (even for engineering). i was just lucky that my family was able to pay for my bills.

and internships usually provide you a stipend, but that usually gets eaten up by living expenses, food, alcohol, etc. it won’t really put a dent into your tuition.

@chemesrule: How much do internships offset the living and personal expenses?

are you talking about summer internships? if so, then the stipend will be around $5000. it’ll cover housing and meals, and you’ll have about $1000-$2000 at the end.

i havent really heard of many internships during the school year, but it would be the same as having a job.

edit: stipends can vary based on the company though. i’ve seen some give $3000 and other $7000.
