Is it possible after the first year?

no...should you matriculate they tell you this at orientation

Just to confirm....it's rare, and I mean EXTREMELY rare, for a student who has entered as an Out of State student to be later reclassified as a resident who is eligible for resident tuition. If you're only living in Michigan to be a student at U-M, that doesn't meet their definition of "resident" for tuition purposes.

Only way you can get instate tution is basically if one or both both of your parents move to that state for legal residence or you somehow prove that you are only there to work and supporting yourself. One of your parents or maybe even grandparents can do this like buy an apartment in Ann Harbor and show they are a legal resident... Those are the only ways you can prove that your a legal resident, good luck.
