Out of state student wondering, can i get accepted?

I will be going into my Senior year at my high school so I don't have a lot of time to be deciding on colleges. I feel like Minnesota is a good school for me, I want to major in Geography or in some sort of Cinema Studies program. I wanted to stay in the Big Ten or the northeast because I live in Columbus, Ohio. But anyway here is what i have:

ACT: 28
SAT: 1880
SAT II: Literature 640, World History 670
GPA w: 4.1ish
GPA uw: 3.89ish
ECs: I'm in orchestra, german club, Chemistry club, National Honors Society, Varsity letter winner in track and cross country for six years. I also volunteer at road races and festivals and my local food bank.

I know i’m supposed to be a buckeye but i’ve actually liked MSU and Minn athletics since i was little, kinda weird.

Phhh are there any gophers out there?

Chill! You’ve posted three times in 20 minutes…people don’t go on this forum that frequently. :p

I think you have a really great chance of getting into CLA. Your GPA is super high, and your extracurriculars are great. Your ACT isn’t awesome, but it’s still above the average for CLA. I never took the SAT, so I can’t say anything about your scores for that.

The U is becoming more and more competitive each year, but as long as you keep up your GPA and extracurrics, I think you have a pretty good shot. Have you taken any AP courses or are you planning to? It’s important to have a challenging curriculum.

Good luck! Personally I’m a Buckeye fan-- my step-brother plays for OSU football and my step-sister and other step-brother went there-- but UMN’s a great school!

heh, I didn’t mean to come off like that, my bad.

I was accepted this year as an OOS student (Florida) with the Gold National Scholarship.
My basic stats:

SAT: 1820, 11 Essay
GPA: 4.5 W
EC’s: Varsity bball, cross country, and soccer (team captain on soccer and bball). SGA Pres, VP, and treasurer.

So I’d say you have a really good chance, given that you may be applying as a geography major (CLA). I was accepted as a polisci major, which is also in CLA.

The U is getting pretty competitive, so just apply early and I think you’ll be fine.

thank you that makes me feel a lot better

No problem. Like I said, just apply early (I did). 33,000 students applied to the U last year, so I wouldn’t say that you’re in 100%. But I think that you should be ok.

you are in for CLA definitely. My stats are similar to yours and i got in for Carlson. some college might be tougher than others but i thin u are fine. don’t fret if u get postponed i met about 10 kids at orientation, all were first postponed and got in eventually. i’m from michigan. and don’t mess up the app, write the essay even thou they don’t require it.

yeah i would also say you have a really good shot at getting in to CLA. you could retake the ACT or SAT and try to boost those scores a little, but if you dont want to, they’re still fine. major advice (don’t think we’re just saying this!) is APPLY EARLY! when the apps are out (are they already?) go fill it out and prepare to send off you materials ASAP after the application period opens. good luck!
