Yes, my daughter is going to OU in the fall. We just paid the enrollment deposit this past weekend! I’m glad she’s finally made her decision. The Scripps School of Journalism is well respected so I feel like it’s a good choice for her - and when we were there last year she just loved the campus and the town. My only concern was that it would be so many kids from Ohio and so few from out of state, but the general feedback I’ve gotten is that that is not really an issue. So we’ll be moving her in this August :)

Congratulations to you and your daughter smithmkt! Sounds terrific!! Keep us posted on her success!!

smithmkt ~ very exciting! You may find D’s new college friends - when they realize you live near NYC - will come and visit. We have enjoyed that aspect of sending both our kids to U’s out-of-state (we live near DC)

The Ohio kids seem to embrace the OOS kids. Dang cute girl has embraced my son. ;-)

My son really appreciates the friendliness of the people. They are more like his Midwestern mama than the people he grew up with here.

As an alumni from OU, I can’t say enough good things about the school. Your son or daughter will absolutely love it. Out of state students are treated no differently than in state students, and won’t have any problem adjusting, unless they’re not used to midwestern friendliness! There’s just something about OU and Athens, that stays with you. It becomes a part of you, and 33 years later, I’m still proud to be a Bobcat!

tpcrd66-My daughter is studying Early Childhood Education at Monmouth University in West Long Branch. Actually used Frontier Airlines out of Trenton a couple of weeks ago. Very easy and cheap! Flies into Columbus, 1-1/2 hours from Athens. Go visit. You’ll love it. My daughter still hasn’t made her decision. We’re giving her to May 1st…

pfrullo, So funny you posted today…I came back on to check status and to confirm if Gateway Scholarship was for four years or only for Freshman year!! My son went to the college fair yesterday and I had him look for and chat with the OU rep who was very nice. I’m going to check out Frontier and wait for OU to post Fall Open House dates! Keep us posted :)

Gateway is four years, but requires a 3.0 GPA at the end of the year (not semester by semester). A 3.0 is easier to maintain for some kids and some majors than others. I think my son will be losing his at the end of this year, but he has another scholarship that will replace it.

Sorry about the new post to an old thread. Regarding OOS scholarships, I noticed on the website that they offer between $1000 and $5000 base on merit and an SAT score above 1100 to be considered. Does anyone have any information on how competitive it is to receive the full amount? How well did your daughter do to receive the $6,000? My son is considering Ohio. 3.4 HS GPA. 1100 SAT. Duel-Enrollment in the local CC with a 4.0 in college classes. We live in Northern VA. Thanks.

We are OOS and today my daughter received a letter offering her $8000. $6000 Trustee, $1000 Distinction and $1000 Achievement. She had an 1150 SAT and 3.4 GPA

We too are out of state. My son was just offered $10,000 (combination trustee, distinction and Achievement Scholarships.0 31 ACT and 3.7 GPA. It took about 6 weeks after he was accepted to get the scholarship letter. He is accepted at Ohio State and a few others so still not sure. We are planning a visit in February to spend some time there.
