Out of state students

For people who are out of state and need to fly home, how inconvenient is it? Which airport is most convenient and how do you get there?

Anyone try to get home by train, or is that an even less convenient way of doing it?

northeastmom,
There is a service called CollegeTransit that gets students home from the northeast. they only run during the major holidays though which does limit them.

nycjmu, Yes, I found it under student travel on the JMU website. It is very much needed there. It does still leave a couple of 3 day week-ends without an easy way home. Have you used the bus to the train station and then taken the airport shuttle to Dulles? How does that work out for you? Any other suggestions, or tips on how you get to nyc? Thanks a lot!

It works although it can be a pain transferring if weather is bad. Other than the 1st semester my freshman year, I don't leave campus for the short holidays. So it's not a big issue.

Nycjmu, I thought that most students from the NY/NJ area would stay b/c it seems like a real pain to get home. Do enough students stay so that you don't mind not going home on the few 3 day-weekends? Are you happy that you chose JMU?

3 day weekends give you an extra night for fun! Oh, I mean studying. Most people stay and you really don't even notice it's a 3 day weekend unless everyone in your dorm is from NOVA. Love JMU, it's great. Everything I pictured college would be.

Damn, I hope I get accepted. I am kind of worried, though, because I hear it is quite the party school, and I am not much of a partier. I am also rather shy when in new places so I am worried about meeting people. Oh well, I guess that will happen anywhere I go.

Don't let that scare you. Almost any school can be a party school if you want it to be. It also doesn't have to be. A school like JMU has so many different things going on, that you don't have to be a partier if you don't want to be. You will still love it.
