Is it harder for out of state students to be accepted? Also, about what would an out-of-state student need to get on the SAT? Thanks for the help!

Esrajay, since Michigan is a state university, it is a little tougher for out of state applications. But since 35% of Michigan undergraduate students are from out of state, (compared to 5%-10% at UTA and UCB), the level of difficulty is only slightly higher.

As far as the SAT requirement, it really depends on on your unweighed GPA, the number of AP classes you took, your class rank and when you apply (the earlier the better). Obviously, if you have a 4.0 unweighed GPA taking a bunch of AP classes and are ranked in the top 5% of your class, you can afford a slightly lower SAT score. On the other hand, if you have a 3.6 unweighed GPA taking a more reasonable courseload and are ranked out of the top 10% of your HS class, you will probably have to ace your SAT.

At any rate, I would say that the mid 50% SAT range for out-of-state applicants applying to the schools of LSA or Engineering is between 1250 and 1450, but anything under 1300 would make it difficult.

Thank you alexandre!
