Out of State Students

@ Chris D’Orso - You’ve mentioned in the past that stony brook gives out around 13,000 student acceptances per year.

Out of curiousity, what percentage of students are from out of state because I can’t seem to find that information anywhere. It would seem that if Stony Brook admits more out of state students and provide housing for them then it would eliminate the “commuter school” image that Stony Brook has with the quiet weekends and it would also increase revenue for the school since the tuition is higher for OOS students.

Any thoughts on this? and any statistics on the applicant pool would be helpful…Thanks!

Nevermind I think I answered my own question…found a link to SBPress (http://sbpress.com/2011/10/stony-brooks-out-of-state-population-growing-but-so-is-their-tuition/)

In 2011, there were around 1000 out of state students so assuming that Stony Brook has an undergraduate population of around 17,000…(https://www.stonybrook.edu/sb/fastfacts/)…then only 5-6% of the students are Out of State?

We’re about 20% OOS overall at the undergrad level. Current data: http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/irpe/data/enrollment/FallHeadcount_Trend_TuitionResidency.pdf

bro, I know my friends which were out state students or international they got in so easily. but because I am in-state I need to wait, even thus they had bad grades. someone got a D and got in. I have no less than B- and I am still waiting.

@SBUTransferapp That’s not true. I’m in-state and I got in around 1-2 weeks after I submitted my apps. I think the chances of people getting into stony are around the same anywhere. It’s probably just more in-state kids apply.
