<p>I am a freshman at Union College in Upstate New York. Its a good small liberal arts college, highly ranked (37th top tier nationally according to USNews), but its not for me. I am going to transfer for spring term of 2007 hopefully, and I am considering many competitive schools, not least among them Berkeley, just wanted to know if it was even worth my time. Its worth noting that this is considered a good springboard school, and last year several people transferred to Cornell, Brown, Georgetown, WashU etc. Oh, and I am from Alabama originally.
My college GPA so far is a 3.8, I made a 1430 on the old SAT (800 verbal, 630 math) I am a very good essay writer as well. My extracurrics are maybe slightly thin. I am a part of Hillel, several clubs, host a weekly radio show, play broomball, and have a good comm. service record throughout high school and some in college. I plan on doing something interesting this summer, looking to become active on campus in other ways if possible. Thanks alot in advance.
I appreciate any help.

<p>As a transfer, they don't look at SAT scores. They basically look at:
1. GPA
2. Whether you completed all the requirements for transfer (60-70 units, Breadth requirements)
3. Whether you completed all the lower division coursework for your intended major.
I would say that Berkeley cares most about #2, and #1,3 are secondary to #2 but they are all the major factors.
Also, if you are out-of-state you need to have killer essays to convince them that you will contribute to the campus, or that Berkeley can offer you something that your current school cannot.</p>
<p>Also, extra curriculars and hobbies are not important for transfer. They mainly look at how well you completed the requirements for transfer (#2,3).</p>
<p>what do you mean exactly by "requirements for transfer."</p>
<p>i feel like my grades, and scores etc. are sufficient, i am just worried about the out of state thing, and I know nothing about what tranferring to Berkely is like.</p>
<p>Berkeley doesn't accept transfers the way they accept incoming freshman. They don't accept you if you have a 4.0 and high sat scores. In fact I transferred and I never sumitted my sat scores.
They look at college GPA and how well you fulfilled the
"requirements for transfer" that I listed above.
If you filled the requirements then it will only take you 2 years or less to complete your Bachelors from Berkeley, which I believe is the purpose behind requiring that you have completed 60-70 semester units (about 1/2 the total units to graduate), and your "Breadth requirements" which are like one math course, 2 semesters of english, science, humanities etc. You should go to Berkeley.edu and search for "Breadth" which will bring up the requirements.
Once you transfer, all you have left to do is complete the upper division courses for your major and finish 60 units.
Most schools private or public have pretty strict transfer requirements which is very unlike the requirements for incoming high school students.</p>
<p>interesting, well, I haven't really heard of anything like that before. Most schools require 30-semester units, so if I understand correctly, you can't transfer as after freshman year to Berkeley?</p>
