Out-Of-State Transferrr

Hello I currently go to University of Utah and I'd love to go to UW since my hometown is Vancouver.

HS stats:
85% in gr 10 88~90% in gr 11 and 91~93% in gr 12. (im from canada and we dont do gpa.)
I do have straight A's (A is 86% or above here) but i have no clue if the system will be viewed in the same manner.

I am a founder of two clubs: jazz band/acappella and humanitarian club (we worked with World Vision :D). I was an editor in newspaper club
and I was in badminton team for 3 years, basketball team for 2 years.

My school does not have any AP courses but I hope that doesnt bring down my chances.

SAT: 1910 (super scored)
750 Math II and 710 Physics

college Stats:
under premed program
16 credits
gpa 3.8~3.9 (im assuming)
i'm in a cappella club for now and maybe badminton as well.

I'm transferring as a sophomore. So do I stand a chance?

oh and im planning on taking 20 credits next semester.
That credit i have up there is only for this semester (sept~dec)

Hey okolopttt,

When you apply for transfer, I don’t believe UW looks at your high school information. (travelgirl, other transfers, please confirm this).

Keep up the GPA. You’re OOS, which is a plus, however you won’t have the 90 credits that UW recommends for transfer applicants. That’s going to go against you.

I called them and they said if i dont have 28 semester credits by the time i apply, they would have to take my hs records in to account, which I am fine with.

90… quarter credits i believe? If that were to go against me, I don’t think there would be anyone applying as a rising sophomore whom UW wouldn’t go against unless the applicant has taken countless courses to get those credits done within first year. (which i believe is sorta possible, but not too confident in getting 4.0 out of such intense course load.)

I know that taking up to 90 credits, as you mentioned, is RECOMMENDED (sorry, me dunno how to italicize), but that doesn’t mean applicants transferring as rising sophomore have lower chance of acceptance soley due to that reason… right?

I mean there are plenty of other factors for admissions office to consider when viewing an application (hence “holistic” view). As long as I have a solid hs record (dunno about my case), I don’t think my chances will drop drastically.

And what exactly is OOS?.. and so do i have a chance? :D

bump! bump bump

Oh, I see! (about using hs info)

Hmm … I’m going to have to turn the 90 credit question over to the other transfer applicants. It’s definitely possible to transfer with only a year under your belt, but from what I’ve heard, it’s just less likely to be able to transfer if you compare two 3.85 applicants, one with less than a year of credits so far and one finishing up a second year. Of course, your GPA is definitely a boost in your application though!

Also, you’re from Vancouver, WA … my bad … I keep thinking Vancouver BC which would count as out of state/international, meaning higher tuition, which UW is currently after. =X

:( if what you said is true, that’d suck… so do you think I have a chance? what’s the verdict? lol.

and I AM from Vancouver, BC  sorry i didnt mention it earlier.
Unfortunately tho, I don’t think i’d be applying as international student because my green card is supposed to be out by end of this year :frowning: wah

I do think you have a chance, just don’t expect a shoe in =P

bump bumpidy bump

Bump!!!@#$!@#
