Out of state tuition and aid?

I am a California resident who transferred to a Florida community college. I just applied for aid for 2008 and my EFC was very low because I was in college all last year. Can anyone tell me if I should expect more money to cover higher out-of-state fees (assuming my EFC is the same as last year)?

Not necessarily, as most state schools give priority in FA to instate students over OOS. Usually, state schools do not provide 100% of need, so there could be a gap between your EFC plus the amount of FA you receive and the cost of attendance. Also, your FA offer may be very heavy to loans.

I don't know any specifics about FA at Florida CCs, you should give the school a call or check their website.

You'll need to check with the Financial Aid office of that specific school, but in general, state schools do NOT give you more aid to pay the higher out-of-state tuition (but they might offer you more loans to help pay the bills.)

Non-residents are charged higher fees because in-state residents pay taxes to support the state schools.
