Does anybody know if Ohio U's tuition has gone up substantially in the last couple of years? My 2003 Barrons lists it at $11,562, but their web site says it is now $17,199.

Also, do out of state kids get much in the way of merit scholarship money? Son would be an excellent applicant, to engineering dept.

$17,199 is the Out of State Tuition for the Class of 2010 (enrolling next fall).

Out of state kids do get full consideration for all scholarships and merit-based Gateway awards. Definitely check out the GATEWAY section of the OU admissions page.

Weenie, I think that out of state students can start geting instate tuition if handled correctly. I think they need to go to school in the summer, need to change both voters registrationa and driver's license to ohio and car registration. If they do , they may be able to claim Ohio residency for subsequent years. You will surely have to check out what I said since this is an "I think." Maybe some nice, knowledgable person has already investigated this and can respond with more certainty.

Im actually applying to ou for engineering out of state. I've been to the school many times and i went to the summer pre-engineering program. The engineering school is fairly new and is excellent, they are going out of their way to recruit good kids. The school is attempting to diversify their student body both ethnically and geographically so there lots of merit scholarships for both in and out of state. I pretty much love ou so if you or your son wants to know anything about it just pm me and ill tell you whatever you want to know. Also to get the full effect of what ou is you MUST visit. If you havent done so you should probably check it out.

When I visited OU a couple weeks ago, I talked to the financial aid ladies and asked them about out of state tuition breaks. My scores qualify for full instate tuition under the Gateway Scholarship program and was wondering if I could also get the Gateway Trustee award, which is a $4000 (I think) stipend for out of state students. They weren't positive (since the Gateway program is new this upcoming year) but said they thought I could get both. That would be like over $12000 if I remember correctly. So, at the very least, don't cross OU off your list if you're worried about the out of state costs. And I third (??) the suggestion that you visit :P
