Any advice on pursuing out of state tuition waiver at Mizzou? I'm a TN resident - high ACT score (33), accepted in Honors Journalism program - offered Mark Twain scholarship. Not a qualifying minority, however.

I’m assuming you’ve checked this: [First-time college students: non-residents | Student Financial Aid | University of Missouri](http://financialaid.missouri.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships/first-time-college-students-non-residents.php) To my knowledge there is no full tuition waiver for out-of-state students except the Mizzou Heritage scholarship, which goes automatically to children of Mizzou graduates who meet the requirements (there is also an annual GPA requirement for renewal).

Did you submit the general scholarship application by December 1? That’s the only way to apply for additional scholarships. You should also apply to the Mizzou Alumni Scholars Program (you do not need to have an alumni parent). You can find the information on the page I linked to above. An essay is required, and I believe the deadline is around January 31.

Since your ACT score is 33, you should be also invited to Walter Scholar Program ([Missouri School of Journalism: The Journalism Scholars and Walter Williams Scholars Programs](Walter Williams Scholars – Missouri School of Journalism)), and can get some extra merit scholarship from School of Journalism, so all together you can get $8-$9K per year which is close to in-state tuition:-)

My daughter has been accepted in the Walter Williams Scholars program for fall 2012 and is national merit commended. I have asked about the oos tuition waiver. Their answer was that they only waive the oos tuition for national merit finalists that name Mizzou as their first choice school. She will get the Mark Twain scholarship and an additional $1000/yr for the Walter Williams. We are hoping for more scholarships as well. :)

Appreciate all of the responses / advice. Very helpful.
