Out of State - UCLA, UCI, USC, NYU, UM

In everybody's opinion, what do you guys think my chances are of getting accepted into any of the schools I mentioned?

I'm currently in the 10th grade.

(I'm graduating a year early as well; not sure if that hurts my chances or not)

9th Grade: All regular core classes. Half semester of Geometery Honors. Finished with a 3.6 GPA.

10th Grade: AP Euro History, Half year AP Bio, Algebra II, English 10, and the rest are regular electives. Currently at a 4.0 GPA (weighted) this sem. Expecting to finish with a 3.6 cumulative this year. Also, since I'm graduating early I'm taking online courses as well. Right now: AP US Government, AP US History, and English 12.

11th Grade (planned): AP English, Honors Pre-Calc, Math 1040, Physics Honors, Business Mgt, Business Law, and other general electives that include AP Psychology and AP Statistics.

I've registered for the SAT (taking it next month) and ACT (2 months). I took a practice SAT and if it were real, I would've scored 1610. (Low, I know). As for the practice ACT, my equivalent was 29 so I have a greater hope that I'll break into the 30's for the ACT.

As for my EC's, I've played various sports at my school, I've done lots of community service, drama club, plenty of hobbies. I haven't done any student government or joined any clubs of those sorts, however.

So, what do you guys think my chances are of getting into those schools? Thanks a ton!

you’re a sophomore, it’s really hard to tell. I got 1600’s my sophomore year and as a junior im mid 2200’s. everything changes

Make sure you do really well on your standardized testing. Generally, those types of bigger schools are more stats based than your average LAC.

First of all, NYU and USC are private colleges so the out-of-state aspect won’t come into play.

Second, I’d spend some time looking at the admissions statistics of these schools. The lower the admit rate the more you need to shoot for being at or above the averages (and remember, the averages for GPA are almost always unweighted). Here’s a link to the most recent USC numbers:

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/documents/FreshmanProfile2013FINAL.pdf

The average admitted USC student had a 3.82 UWGPA, 32 ACT and a 2140 SAT for a school with a 20% admit rate. Obviously students with lower stats did get in but that’s a very competitive environment. Other good sites to find these type of stats:

Keep driving your GPA up and work on the standardized test scores.

Work as hard as you can to bring up your GPA and score. Come back in Junior year with real scores for chancing.
