Out of State v. In-State Question?

I am not sure if this question is in fact in the right section so if it need to be somewhere else please move it.

So my question is I am a resident of the state in which I live and have been living here for over 5 years. I got accepted into the colleges that I have applied to and that are on the top of my list. I was however classified as a Non-Resident of the state, which concerns me because I will not be able to get the scholarships which is offer for instate students. I was wondering if I call the offices and ask them what I need to do to change that status to actual Instate resident, will the decision change, in other words will I be still accepted or denied if I change the status of the residency.

Unless your situation is very unusual (there are some circumstances where someone’s legal “domicile” is not the same as the place where they’re living), it sounds as if you are simply incorrectly classified. Possibly there is a form you need to fill out to indicate that you are in-state, and you haven’t done that yet. Call the schools immediately and find out. The admission decision shouldn’t change–normally it’s harder, not easier, to be accepted as an out-of-state than an instate student, so if you were wrongly considered out-of-state, you had to meet a higher admission standard.

Thanks for the quick response!
