Out of State versus In State Acceptance Criteria

Does anyone know if being from out of state hurts or helps your chances of getting into Michigan State? I have a 2.9 unweighted GPA (almost all honors or high honors classes) from a private Massachusetts high school and a 1340 SAT. I’ve had a part time job and have been on sports teams 8 out of 9 seasons. I’m leaning towards majoring in business but could also see myself as an economics or political science major. Any feedback would be appreciated! thanks

Being out of state generally makes it more difficult to be accepted to a state college. However, all schools consider the difficulty of your schedule. Focus on improving your GPA for your last (few) semesters. Also, applying in the first round of admissions will give you a much higher chance of acceptance compared to later rounds, so I would recommend planning your time to meet the first deadline. Good luck on your application!
