Im doing research on the admissions figures (acceptance rate, SAT ACT mid ranges, GPA, etc.) but I can't find out what the figures are for just out of state students.

how much harder is it for out of state, really?

I tried to find out OOS SAT's or ACT's vs. in-state about a month ago on CC. Everybody said it was "Ivy League" hard, but nobody had any numbers. My Dtr. (and I) went to visit UVA about two weeks ago with the same result. The Adm. Officer did not have any numbers (and either can't or wouldn't gert them). So we remain with a vague idea of what is needed. Hopefully someone will have better information.

Your chance is of getting admitted is 1/3 (out of 3/3)
And, you are competing against 48 other states (not counting VA and your own state)
Plus, international students!

In fall 2005, 9,213 OSS students applied for admission, 2,768 were accepted. The average SAT for all students (both in and out) is 1320, I couldn't find it just for OSS, however keep in mind that UVA doesn't place as much emphasis on SATs as other thing.

OOS is very tough based on the experience of students at a very competitive high school in PA (including my son - waitlisted with a 1500 SAT, NMF, 3.9/4.8 GPA and strong leadership ECs). Lots like him were rejected or waitlisted. Not one student from his school (450 grads) is attending this year. Worth a try though...good luck.

It's not "Ivy League" hard at all- or at least in the sense that most people conceive it (Harvard, Princeton, Yale). Maybe like Cornell hard.

OOS Sat average is probably lower to mid 1400s, while IS Sat average is upper 1200s to lower 1300s. I think overall that brings it to somewhere between 1360-1380 overall average.

Actually, sv3a as my previous post stated the average sat for all students is 1320.

What role does legacy play when considering out of state admission?

(deleted).

Panhadlegal, a legacy from OOS will be treated as an in-state student for admissions.
