Out-of-state waiver

It was my understanding that the University of Alabama waived it’s out-of-state when students met a set of academic criteria. Is this not correct?

Edit: grammar

It doesn’t work like that… no waivers…state won’t allow.

However, there are academic merit scholarships for those that have certain stats.

What are your stats?

If these are your stats, you would get MORE than what an OOS waiver would give you.

You’d get $26k per year! This reduces your tuition to about $3k per year…far BELOW Instate tuition!!!

@familyfromLI update info for UA OOS 2019-2020

There is a waiver for OOS CC transfers that waives out of state costs. https://scholarships.ua.edu/transfer/

Yes, there is a scholarship that covers the OOS portion. Technically not a “waiver” since the state will not allow those.

@mom2collegekids - thanks for this info, as well as all of the info you provide on these boards to help others in their process

One question Re: the 3.5 GPA threshold - is that weighted, unweighted, or a UA-specific weighted calculation methodology they use for admissions?

It’s whatever is on the transcript. If the highest GPA on the transcript is weighted, then that’s used. Bama doesn’t recalculate unless the school uses a very odd scale like 7.0.

If your school doesnt weight GPA , then you can calculate the weighted GPA using a standard method, then show that to your GC and ask if she’ll write that on the transcript that is sent in…and Bama will accept that for schools that don’t weight GPA.

Thank you!
