This girl I know was accepted to UNC and only has to pay in-state tuition even though she does not live/is not from North Carolina. Is this a scholarship of sorts? How did she get this opportunity? Thanks!

Why don’t you ask her about it?

Maybe her parents live in North Carolina but she goes to a (boarding?) school outside of NC, or her parents are divorced and one parent lives in NC?

That would be my only guess. I don’t know how it works but there is some was to gain in-state status, maybe after a year of living in NC and paying Nc taxes?

Maybe she lives in DC. I think DC residents get a in-state tuition up to a certain level.

The only people who are not NC residents who get “instate tuition” are those on full rides. The thing is, when you are on a full ride, it doesn’t particularly matter whether you are considered an NC resident or not…
