might as well add that i’m a linguistics major, dunno if that helps my chances.
are the cards stacked against me to the point where it would be pointless to apply?

It’s definitely worth applying, but that doesn’t mean that you have a good chance of getting in. Out of state transfers get last priority and it seems nearly impossible. The pre-reqs need to be completed by the end of spring, but having a good chunk (if not all) of them done in fall would just make your application that much stronger. Make sure that you write an amazing essay.

I wouldn’t say nearly impossible for out-of-staters. The expectations are higher, but this year’s was 30.4% for in-state transfers and 20.2% for out.

F UCs, man.
go ivy.

apply!!!

why worry about not getting in? u only lose $60 for $999999999 potential benefit. The acceptance is only by luck once u r at certain level:)

thanks for the responses guys.

one more question:
could anybody tell me if my understanding of the transferable courses is right?

there are minimum requirements for transfer eligibility which consist of

“Two transferable college courses in English composition; one transferable college course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning; four transferable college courses chosen from at least two of the following subject areas: the arts and humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the physical and biological sciences.”

then there are gen-ed requirements which they’d like you to have mostly completed, but this is not vital?

finally, they want you to try and take the prereq classes for your major?

can you skip the math and 2 english requirements with a certain SAT score? they said something about it in the transfer brochure but it wasn’t clear what the score got you out of.

^^I extremely doubt it. They don’t even do that for freshman, if anything it might waive english and math placement tests for entering Freshman. It states those two are part of the minimum requirements meaning you should have completed those before transferring in.

Additionally, how do you define worth? If its a matter of money, its honestly a matter of what you and your family can afford. Frankly I think it would be rediculous to pay out of sticker price if you’d have to take out loans to attend. If your family is well off, and wouldn’t get financial aid at either a private or public, it becomes a matter of what school do you like best.

i’m actually at berkeley for the summer and i’ve really liked it so far, hence the interest in transferring. i will be applying to a bunch of private schools too.

regarding paying for out of state tuition, i’m from connecticut and currently attending indiana university. won’t get fin. aid anywhere; that’s not an issue.
