Out of State?

How big of an effect do you think this will have on admissions?

I think I’m a pretty strong candidate but I’m still not in state, is that gonna hurt me?

Thanks!

With all the budget insanity, I’m not sure anyone. other than administrators, can answer your question. Plus, admission is done by dept./major.

I would like to think that they would almost favor the strongest OOS applicants, seeing as we would pay the highest tuition. Whether this is fair or not is another discussion but still one would think it would work to my advantage.

GPA: 4.1 W (ish, a bit confused on that), 4.0 UW
6 AP Classes
ACT: 34
work experience, 6-10 hours but unrelated
11-15 hours a week of ec, with leadership

I really want this, if any out of staters can contribute I would greatly appreciate it!

Your stats look very good. ECs are irrelevant. What’s your major?

materials engineering with mechanical as an alternate. I will gladly pay out of state tuition all 4 years if i could get accepted!

Yeah, I saw that in another thread. FWIW, I think your chances are excellent regardless of oos quotas.

I think being out of state will be beneficial to applicants this year at Poly. The CSU budget is a mess.

That’s what the Mustang Daily is reporting:
[Cal Poly ups out-of-state recruitment effort | Mustang Daily - News for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo](http://mustangdaily.net/cal-poly-ups-out-of-state-recruitment-effort/)

Of course, all of the normal problems with Cal Poly have also been exasperated by the budget crisis. You can forget about changing major or having a minor (in Engineering anyways).

thanks gotpeter! are you familiar with any out of state students that attend cal poly?

and bjornredtail, I have been pretty set on materials engineering for a while now. I have family members that have gone into the field and are very happy and successful.

Unfortunately, I don’t know any.

No worries.

Can anyone give me some hope as to whether or not I’ll be admitted? I know some really great applicants got rejected last year, I hope I don’t join them!

you are prime dude, there is absolutely no need to worry. Plus your major is one of the easiest engineering fields to get into, just relax.

I agree with Bobby123 unless, of course, you’re from Texas :)
