in state or out of state?

i am interested if you getin or not.. i got more than that, but i am shooting for that SAT. I hope you get in, cause it'll help my chances possibly...

good luck! you definitely have a shot.

I'd say you have about a 40% chance of getting in. Your SAT is around the average but perhaps a bit a low for out of state. Depending on how your school weights, your GPA could be low too. If you are in the top 10% of your class that will really help your chances. Remember it is much, much harder to get in out of state but you've definately got a shot! Good luck

Just a quick comment on the SAT scores being a hair low for out off state. . . I agree. Based on some back of the envelope calculations my guess is the average out of state SAT is about 1390 or so.

However, we got an interesting comment from the admissions folks when we visited Duke. They told us. "If your SAT scores fall within our 25% - 75% range, they will not affect your chances for admission." Meaning that other factors like essays will make or break your chances, if you're in that general range.

UVA's admissions folks may not operate that way, they may be more numbers driven, but my sense is that if your SATs "fit the profile" other factors become more important.

ok... Cornell attended my school... they basically said the same thing I guess Duke says... they said that the essay and GPA are things that can help you get in, while an SAT can not get you in, but can keep you out. The admissions rep. for my area said as long as you had a 1300 or above (out of state) for Cornell, you would be waived for the next round.... But, another thing they said was that 1/3 of people in Cornell had less than a 1300, so really it doesn't matter... it's probably for sports or sometihng.

I think the problem with the SAT is, people here post their SAT and GPA. IN reality, an SAT will NEVER earn you money at all in the real world, and good colleges know that other factors may be twice as important as an SAT.

Now, saying that, the top 25 colleges most likely want a student body with a 1200+ or maybe a 1300+... depends.

it's impossible to give neelash any % because we have not seen everything...

you're right it is impossible to give an accurate percentage. I was simply making a guess based on my previous experience with admissions at UVa

do you know anyone who has gotten in with a ~1300 and a ton of cool ECs? fill me in on some previous experiences... i am interested.

in my graduating class there were at least 3 people who were accepted with less than 1300. One was very active in drama and the other two both played sports and were in the top 10%. With my class it seemed to be the trend that no one was accepted that wasn't in the top 10%. Obviously not a hard rule just an observation made by myself and others.

ok, well at my school i am rank 1 and in the top .00001% (obviously) and share it with like 5 or 6 other ppl i think...

but i have also a ton of other stuff. were they out of state? i fear that my sat is my lowest thing (1240)... everything else is off the board and makes everyone i know say "wow, you do all that stuff?"

so worried... December 4th is my last day. history will never repeat itself.

hmm. my school does not rank....but i will be in the top 10%
so avg at UVa is about 1390 for out of staters? well crap!

oh. i have a question. how much does UVa care about SAT II scores? because i got 650 on writing and math IIC ( i am retaking, but i dont know what i will get...) and i think i will get around a 650 in biology too....

lmao neelesh, dont feel bad. the sat isn't everything. dont lsiten to the "avg" is a 1390. us news has stuff that says 1240 - 1390 or something weird... forgot... i think your sat is fine for out of state.

i certainly hope so. how bout my SAT IIs?

I would say they are fine. I look at UVa, and then I look at an Ivy. I really would keep in mind that UVA is not as stringent as, say, an Ivy. I think you have a good chance.

You fall in the upper edge of the US News' 25% to 75% quartile.... but... I forgot what it is. I think it starts at 1220 or something... not sure. I garbaged it on accident.

lol. i hope i make it in. especially because they give good money to everyone that goes there...

so....who else is applying RD?

I am, in state, 1450 3.825 uw, 800 IIC, engineering

lol. there pretty much is no way you are getting rejected...

I'd rate your chances at 2%

i think one of the things you can do to get admissions attention is to tell them things in your essays that they are not going to know just by looking at your scores, ec's, etc
something personal so that they can really get an idea of what kind of person you are ...there are 3 essays so basically you have 3 chances to get them to know you...it is hard to sit down and figure something out....not everyone can sit there and come up with something engaging or funny, not everyone can be a creative writer under pressure, but if you tell them something that gets them to see who you are, how you think or feel ..it can work for you just the same
