UNC is my top choice, woo hoo. Can’t wait till January.

This may not be the best place to post this, but in looking around this board, it strikes me that certain states have an affinity towards NC schools… While NY and Texas are both very large population wise (and therefore would have more students applying elsewhere, so-on and so-forth), in both the Elon board and the UNC-CH board, there seems to be many, many students applying from New York.

Does NC have that great of a reputation for strong schools up north? While I have recently come to realize that I am a native to a damn good state, I have spent my high school years listening to my friends complain about how much they hate NC, how they can’t wait to get out… the usual teenage restlessness and angst.

Now that I am in the throes of college admissions (though really, almost done), it has become obvious that NC has many good schools… but other states have colleges to be proud of as well.

Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed this?

New York has one of the worst state school systems, so that could be why.
We’ve had a few in my area of Pennsylvania. One girl who I graduated with is at UNC and a friend of mine from Delaware is also at UNC. We have much better luck with Duke, though :P

As a freshman from New York, I’ll be the first to tell you that going to school in the South is awesome. People are actually friendly!

New York’s public college system pretty much sucks. They have a billion campuses most of which are upstate schools that no one outside of NY have heard of. We don’t have anything even close to the calibur of a UNC, UVA, UMich, UCLA, etc. I’d say a large majority of New York’s most intelligent students go out of state or at least private.

As far as out of staters go, I’ve met some from New York, but a ton from Maryland, Florida, and Virginia.

I’m applying for the Pogue scholarship. If I get it there is a strong chance I will go to UNC. Otherwise I’ll probably be going to UT Plan II Honors.

I’m kinda sad that I’ve decided to look at other colleges rather late. I was fairly certain that I was going to go to Texas until I heard I got an email from UNC about the Pogue scholarship. I also kinda wish I had applied for the Robertson or Morehead and also for the Jefferson at UVA. Oh well, too late.
