Out-of-Staters at Public Universities

I'm going from Texas to UCLA. I'm just worried about the like 5% out of state rate. I don't want to be the weird out of state kid :(

I'm going from San Diego to Philly...I definately agree with whoever said they're leaving cuz they know they can come back. Cali will always be my home and its paradise so...

I think alot of the anxiety of what "LA" is, is pretty funny. LA is so huge, the stereotypical Malibu/Beverly Hills thing is just a small portion. But yeah, compared to other places (like missouri, when i visited a couple yrs ago) the people are very attractive, always tan, looking good. Aside from a certain group of people though, I disagree that there is pretention. Just like the stereotype about the OC now because of the show. Sure there are kids like in Laguna Beach and that one housewives show, but their are also really cool, down to earth, not mega rich people, that have a cool laidback culture like no other. What you see in the media and on TV is cookie cutter. I personally think SoCal people are much more laidback than NorCal peeps. I'm kinda partial to my theory the lower in cali you go the more laidback people get, I've never lived in Nor Cal, but I have lived in different parts of LA, OC and SD, and I think the areas go in that order of laidback-ness.

Anyways, I'm off to Temple in the fall, which is a Philly public...I wanna know what people are like there, cuz...there's not enough TV shows about them...j/k

LA is too spread out.

Hey, I started grad school at Bowling Green. I'm from upstate, New York. I don't think the experience was much different than if I went to school in NY. I finished at U. South Florida in Tampa. Out of staters blend just as well as in staters.

As a side note, are Uptown, Downtown and the Brauthause still alive and kicking at BGSU? I had some good times there.

What makes u think that? It makes no sense, I would think just the opposite.

Congrats! You'll love it at Temple. It is a very diverse and rising school. Few people here regard it as highly as they should. They have many succesful alumni (including my father) so dont be discouraged by any crap people say about the school.

I'm not a fan of socal, it's dirty and crowded. Norcal is nice, but I miss the weather of the south. SF and up is the place to be IMO.

I haven't started at BG yet, I'll make sure to check those places out when I get down there. What are some other places to check out?

"SF and up is the place to be IMO."

Yup, North Bay/Sonoma County is the place to be.

I'm from Houston, TX, and I'll be going to University of Colorado in Boulder. I'm a little anxious about the cluster**** that will be freshman year, meeting new people but not necessarily knowing any of them as good friends yet.

I'm going to The University of Tennessee from Florida. It's not common for people to go out of state from my high school. I'm really excited even though I won't know anyone. :)

I'm going from Chicago to University of Wisconsin-Madison. It's actually not that awat and as stated before Wisconsin has a pretty high out of state rate (around 40%).

I'm going from Taipei, Taiwan to University of Virginia. Yep, other side of the world. Guess I should prepare for major culture shock haha.
