Out-of-staters Class of '09

Actually boysmom, going at 75 miles an hour, you get to Somerset in 45 minutes...tops. Just take 14 East (10 minutes), 275 North (5 minutes), 696 East (10 minutes) and 75 North.

so what stores are there in ann arbor? i know theres an urban outfitters--YESSS....is there an american eagle? i'll die without one....abercrombie? starbucks? applebees? i MUST have applebees...dunkin donuts? any good bagel places? i'm a bagel addict like no other...guys ir eally want to get pumped up to go to UMich after a depressing rejection from another school so any wolverines feel free to IM me...aim OtOwNzDrEaMcHiCa....its an 8th grade sn, dont judge me...

OSU SUCKS!!! yes I've said it!! but not in my school just yet considering a good 3/4's of my class is goin to to osu. I'm gonna be at like EVERY GAME especially THIS YEAR WOLVERINES VS OSU IN OUR HOUSE BABY!!!! I'm gonna paint myself and go wild, thats after doing all 50 hrs of my work and study of course. Anyone wanna IM me...its REALBEAST87 on AIM/AOL. Talk to a fellow spirited wolverine! and alexandre, i dunno if Pakistan is considered an "Arab" country but I'm Muslim (I dunno if you are or not). I go to dearborn all the time and hang out at the joints there 2 lol.

You will be AOK Stephanie! LOL

You have everything in Ann Arbor. There are two or three Applebees. Yuk...but I am a food snob. There definitely are a couple of Starbucks right next to campus. There is one on State Street and Liberty. There are a few baggle places also within steps from campus (including Eistein's baggles, but I am not a baggle experts, so I am not sure how good they are.

There is an Abercombie in Briarwood mall, a 15 minute bus ride from central campus. That Mall also hasAmerican Eagle, Banana Republic, Gap, 9 West, Ann Taylor etc...

One place you must check out when you get to Ann Arbor is a deli called Zingerman. It is the best Deli outside of NYC. Also check out a vegetarian restaurant called Seva on Liberty Street.

You do not have to declare your undying love for me quite yet! LOL

Well, since I live a mile from Somerset, and I've driven to AA probably 40 times in the last three years, I'm again going to say that even going 75, which is pushing it, it's going to take at least an hour. But hey, what do I know. Especially if you try it during rush hour. Or a football saturday.

Umardarr, Pakistan is considered part of the Near East, not Middle East. One of my dearest friends is Pakistany. His name is Jawad. We were students at the same High School in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and then, we went to Michigan together. He is currently getting his MBA at Carnegie Mellon. We still keep in touch on a monthly basis.

As for me, I am actually Maronite (Catholic), but my sister married a Muslim, as did two of my cousins. So my family is has people of all faiths and we all get along beautifully. Now if only thre rest of Lebanon could follow in our footsteps! LOL

Anyone know if there are benefits to finishing a housing application early? or is it completely random?

Alexandre--LOL, heyyy I'm inquisitive

If anyone wants to IM me, my AIM name is reeses414 rocks (Yeah, I know. Really creative on my part...).

I just got back from U of M for Campus Day, and I actually had a good time. The things that probably impressed me the most were actually the professors. They're human!!! They had two of them come to talk to us, and they were actually very approachable and... normal (For graduate school, one went to Yale with University of Colorado undergrad and the other to the University of Chicago with U of M for undergrad). Plus, when we went into Chem 1800 (heh... Alexandre, I was picturing someone falling down those steps, and I'm still not getting you coming out of that in one piece), a lcture was in progress, and it wasn't the type of droning on lecture that I would have originally envisioned. It felt more laid back and like something that I have already experienced at the Math and Science Center over the past four years. It was a nice surprise.

Another thing that caught my eye was the Ronald McDonald House that's really close the campus. I've been volunteering at one in Grand Rapids (I'm crazy for doing that, too, since Grand Rapids is an hour drive from my house), and that would be an easy place for me to start up my volunteering streak again in college (that and Dance Marathon - Yes, they have that at U of M, too). BTW, I liked hearing about the Will Smith Now and Forever Club and the Squirrel Club. Those are funny, and I'm being completely serious that they have those clubs.

By the way, is there a North Face store close to Ann Arbor? I'm sorry, but I want one of those fleeces. I already have one (and only one) North Face shirt (not a fleece), but I still want a fleece. I'm usually a jeans and t-shirt type of person, but I also want to be "preppy" sometimes, too.

I'm going to start a list of all the UMich--AIM names if you want to add yourself to the list just copy the list and add your name on the bottom

Don't forget the rocks at the end, or you won't get me.

One more question: woukld it be possible for a freshman to score a work study job in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions? If I decide to accept my work study option, I think that would be one of the most "attractive" places to get a job (in my opinion).

Just got in engineering! Still deciding on schools.

is anyone applying to lloyd hall scholars? i have all my stuff ready for it, but still debating whether to apply to it. let me know! btw...my aim sn is Squeaky529, like swooshstar said, dont judge, haha mines from 4th grade. anyone fell free to drop me an im. also, any of you guys on myspace or facebook yet?

I'll add my 2 cents on the shopping questions:

Swoosh -- There's an Urban Outfitters on campus. An American Eagle and Abercrombie at the mall. Yes we have Applebees. There's a Starbucks or other coffee shop every 20 feet, I think. My favorite near campus is Espresso Royale. In the Main St area, I like Sweetwaters (which is where all the local entrepreneurs hang out for some reason.) I don't actually know where to go for donuts. There must be a Dunkin Donuts around here somewhere. In bagels, we have Barry's - which most people think is the local best. (But Elaine's bagels from Birmingham, MI are better and many stores carry them.) Also Einstein bros and Brueggers on campus. There are a couple of cute, but expensive, stores for younger folk -- Poshh on Liberty, Bivouac on State - and there's another one I can't remember the name of on South University. There's also Voila on Main St for nicer clothes.

Jimmy -- there is a hookah place in Ann Arbor. Don't know if students frequent it, but maybe.

Resses -- Bivouac on State St is where to go for Northface jackets.

Other great shopping/dining destinations -- Zingerman's, Border's (crowded at midnight), Fleetwood (for your 2 AM greasy food fix), Angelo's (incredible raisin bread), Kerrytown (cute shops, near Zingermans), Steve and Barry's (for cheap Michigan gear), Mo's (more Michigan stuff). For outfitting your dorm room, there's Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target. Also Meijers - which doesn't have anything great, but has everything and is open 24 hours. If you want to take your parents to a nice restaurant, there's the Gandy Dancer and West End Grill (make reservations well in advance).

Sommerset is definitely more than 40 min from Ann Arbor. With traffic, allow an hour. It's taken me 1 hr 15 min with just regular rush hour traffic. I almost never think it's worth the drive anyway. In the end, it's still just a mall.
