How easily do people from the east coast fit in at IU? Do most people come with friends and stick with those friends from Indiana? Do the out-of-staters end up staying together?

I couldn't answer your question about cliques and who exactly hangs out with who, but I know that IU has a heavy east coast population, mainly because of their business school reputation out there.

My son went there from the West Coast and had no trouble fitting in or making friends. I'm sure it would be the same for someone from the East Coast. There are lots of people there who don't know anyone else. And, no, out-of-staters do not end up staying together. Some of my son's best friends there are from Indiana.

there is a small population of "cliques" who are instate who sorta hang with their instate friends cuz obviously its a public school and the majority of students would be instate, but it wasnt the majority when i was visiting during orientation. there were alot of indiana kids who didnt know each other or wanted to meet other people and "branch" out. usually even though most the kids (about 60%ish) are instate, they dont all know each other because the kids are from different counties/regions/cities/towns. dont worry about not fitting in, just dont be an ***hole lol. i remember there was a quote in the Princeton Review book about the social life at IU and the kid said that since IU was soo big with all types/kinds of people, people always find that "niche" or group they belong to or enjoy being with and honestly, after my visit, i agree with that statement. there is literally all kinds of people at IU, although racially the majority is caucasian

but there not racists! lol yea if tats what ur thinking.............................. its supposedly the really liberal town of the state of indiana.
