any out of staters here who are definitely going to berkeley?

I am! (North Carolina)

Cool, I'm coming from Texas :P

I got in, and I got the Alumini Scholarship, but I've got a full ride to UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County). I'm also in the Honors College there. So as much as I'd like to go to Cal, I can't refuse this offer.

From Colorado: 98% chance I'll be goin' to Cal.

im from WA and I visited Cal on Saturday...
I loved it!
Do any of you know how you could establish residency after your first year at Cal?
My parents are saying that if I could establish residency sometime while i'm attending Cal that they would let me go...due to financial issues.

i don't know if thats possible, check the financial aid office...........

Yes, it can be done. However, there it is a very difficult process, and takes at least two years.

My current roommate moved from Missouri and attended UCI for his first two years before transferring to UCLA. In order to establish residency, he had to:

Work for two years and show that he had a steady, sustainable income
Take "independent" status as far as taxes were concerned
Do mountains of paperwork, keep paystubs for years, and basically legally estrange himself from his family.

Don't count on establishing residency for tuition purposes. Go there if you absolutely love it and have no problem paying ~$40,000/year for four years. They changed residency requirements back in 2003 to make it nearly impossible. You can try, but it's no walk in the park.

thanx for the info, guys!
i see... i'll have to sit down and talk with my parents.
this is such a difficult decision to make!
right now, my choices are University of Washington or Cal.
