Hello everyone this is my first post here, so please forgive me in advance if this is posted in wrong section. I graduated from a private school in May 2008 and began to attend a local university and local community college. I have only taken about 3 hours at each school each semester. During this time I tried to get accepted into other programs including: military, learning a trade, etc. I have had a lot of dropped classes and did poorly in one class and now I am here asking for your help. Basically I want to apply to a new school without sending in transcripts (starting fresh if you will). I know I will need to send in high school transcript for sure, but will I need to retake my SAT's since they are quite outdated? What else will I need before I begin admission process?

You will need to submit official transcripts from all of the colleges and universities you have attended to date. You can’t pretend that they don’t exist. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

Whether or not you classify as a “transfer” applicant or as a “freshman” applicant will depend on the specific policies of each of the colleges/universities that you apply to. You need to carefully read their websites for this information. If you have specific questions about any given institution, you should pick up the phone and call their admissions office. They will be able to help you. They have dealt with students like you before.

BTW: the colleges have a database clearinghouse which will quickly tell them that you have some college under your belt and that a transcript should be forthcoming. If you lie and take FA, you’re committing a crime. If you lie regardless, the college can revoke any degree or credits you obtain.

You aren’t sunk. Like happymom said, lots of colleges want students who are determined the 2nd time around. Best of luck to you.

well i finished applying to the schools I wanted to and will send in high school and college transcripts along with copies of SAT’s to all three schools tomorrow. (they needed HS trans. and SAT’s because I had not completed many college hours).

Do I go ahead and apply for financial aid and scholarships or wait to here if i have been accepted.

Look on the college websites under their FA section, they will give deadlines for FA materials for transfer applicants. You can’t access the FAFSA until Jan 1, but some schools use the Profile and that’s available now.

Institutional scholarships vary widely, some automatically consider any student that applies, others require separate applications and essays and may have different deadlines. Again go to the FA section of the school’s website and they will list requirements for any scholarships they give.

If you are also looking at outside scholarships offered by private companies and organizations, you do that before you are accepted. They all have their own requirements and timelines, so start looking now.
