Can anybody tell me anything about the Massachusetts state college system specifically Salem,Bridgewater, and Framingham?

Supposedly, Salem is the best of the three--from what I've heard, anyway. They're all party schools to a degree, especially Bridgewater.

Thanks JuJu anyone else?

Please don't ignore this give it your best shot!

No offense, but from what I've heard, the Mass. state schools are a joke. Even UMass has a party school rep.

Just because they like to drink beer, it doesn't mean these colleges are a joke. They are decent colleges and produce a lot of the public high school teachers in the state. There are lots of folks who graduated from the elite colleges in Massachusetts (grad and undergrad) who want to stay in the state and suck up the intellectual atmosphere. A lot of these people end up teaching at the colleges in the state college system.

Thanks for the vote of confidence anyone else? p.s. my mom got here bachelors, and both masters from mass state schools and is now the principal of 2 schools one of which was last year ranked the 68th best school in the country in the middle of the cities worst neihborhood as a public school. And the other which has recieved national accolades and is up and coming. Anyone?

I kno salem state has really good nursing

not really jpod just because the colleges cost less than 20 grand and are mostly kids who are payin for thier own education (not thier parents paying) doesn't mean they are a joke. in NE employers higher alot of people from those schools and thats all the really matters.

very wise...

hello....?

help....?!

how about the umass system?

from what i know of the umass system, amherst is the best academically and has a strong social scene (zoo-mass). dartmouth is probably very similar to amherst but i am not sure. lowell is more specialized in health services and is otherwise lesser academically. i know very little about umass boston.
if you live in mass and did well on the mcas (im not sure how well) u get free tuition at umass. the catch is the tuition is very low compared to room and board.
as for the initial 3 i know near nothing. i know a couple people at salem but i know nothing of the school. Ask your GC

Thanks!!!!

UMass-Amherst has the best reputation by far.
The academics are of high quality (i.e. quality of faculty, research, etc,) on par with schools much better known; however, relatively few UMass students take advantage of them. Different areas of campus have different social orientations, (i.e. southwest=party.) Excellent honors program.
UMass-Boston is probably the second best academically, but still laregely a commuter school--in Dorchester, a T-ride from downtown.
Dartmouth and Lowell are similar to the Mass. State colleges--in terms of reputation, anyway. The two people I know who went to Lowell transferred from it.

thanks again!

This is entirely anecdotal, but i have friends at framingham state who don't seem to enjoy it that much. Salem state and bridgewater state seem to be more enjoyable.

good call..

Really?

Isn’t Framingham State a dry campus? Also, I heard the FSU campus police are actually the real Framingham town police. Don’t have current knowledge, but sounds like maybe it used to be a party school.
