Hello! I am finally completing my essay; I am applying to new college of florida, brown, and a few more liberal arts colleges...

which subject would be the best topic for my main essay?

(in no particular order)
1. having a hurricane destroy our house; how it has affected me
2. being a life-long resident of a trailer park; dealing with low income; challenges
3. getting the lead role of a play last year, with no prior experience; how it has helped me grow as a person
4. being a twin, benefits; how it has affected me
5. being home-schooled along with my sister during my elementary school years
6. my concern about the arts being removed from school
7. students in america having a remedial curriculum when attending the public school system (may combine this with subject 5)

which one is the most interesting-at-first-glance to you? i would love to hear any opinions and/or suggestions! :D

I probably wouldn’t do 4, 5, 6, or 7 because with those, you run the risk of the essay not focusing enough on you and who you are as an individual. Just my two cents

To be honest, it’s hard to decide without seeing how you would approach the essay. The most interesting one at a glance for me is number 4, especially if you approached it with some humor. If you’re going for something more serious, number 2 could be very interesting. Numbers 1, 3, and 6 have potential to be good, but those run the highest risk of sounding cliche.

Just my opinion, though. I’m really interested to hear what others think. Good luck!

^agreed, number 2 is the best and has the greatest reward factor. But many essays have great topics and ideas, but only a small amount of those essays live up to their potential. If you choose 2, don’t forget how to explain how it affected you/made you who you are too.

number 2 sounds interesting to me. Being a twin myself, I discovered that the “twin essays” are more common than people think, so I removed that from my essay topic candidates recently. However, the most important thing is how you write the essays, not the topics. So its all up to you!

first - 1
second - 2 (topic is too general and wide open, you can write about lots of stuff, but most likely you will have a hard time to focus)
third - 4 (go with humors on this one)

other than these, the rest just isnt essay material topics…

well, actually option 3 is a great essay material topic, but they would be overly used and major boredom.
