Out of vs in State

After looking through last year’s acceptances/postponers/rejections, it seems that Out of state students need higher GPA’s and ACT/SAT than WI residents to get in. Is this true?

I have a 29 ACT and 3.75 GPA, which seems like a good fit, but I am out of state so I feel as if this is on the low side.

@mab1234 the average ACT for accepted WI residents is about a 28. The OOS ACT works to around a 30 average. But a 29 is certainly in the ballpark. Is the 3.75 gpa weighted or unweighted?

@JBStillFlying unweighted

OK - your stats are good so chances for admissions should be good. Avg. GPA is 3.85 but 3.75 is in the ballpark (like your ACT). Not sure about timing, however - deferral is always possibility if you applied early. The admit rate for OOS has been about 49% historically and your stats seem pretty reasonable for that probability. Things might be a bit more competitive with the Common App. this year.

Good luck to you!
